Named after Daniel Boone

who supposedly camped here on his travels across the state, it is home to Appalachian State University and at an elevation of 3300′ is the highest mountain town of its size east of the Mississippi River. Summer high temps average in the 70’s and lo’s in the 50’s. Higher elevations can get even cooler and sometimes create their own weather so always pack an extra layer.

The beautiful mountains, laidback atmosphere and abundance of outdoor activities have brought us some notoriety over the years; Lance Armstrong claims it’s his favorite place to train. Boone was noted as “an ultimate outdoor adventure destination” by Outside Magazine a few years ago. You’ll just have to come visit and see for yourself why everyone loves the high country so much.
